How To Create A Podcast On SoundCloud?

If you are currently thinking of starting a new podcast as a way to  make money online   or if you already have one and you want to find a platform where these podcast recordings can be uploaded, creating a Podcast On SoundCloud is one option that can be considered because of how easy and straightforward it is to do even for beginners, and it is even free for the first hours of audio upload.

For those who are not familiar with SoundCloud, it can be considered as the YouTube for audio files where people are also able to share, comment, and eventually collaborate with others all over the world. It's also very easy to share and embed SoundCloud episodes to different platforms so it will also be easy for people to access them.

In fact, Soundcloud is YouTube for audio recordings, whether it's a new track by an underground musician or a popular podcast. The service is designed specifically for original recordings, which are uploaded to it by the authors themselves. Add podcast to soundcloud is quite simple, but first things first.

1. Create a SoundCloud account

The first step in creating a podcast on SoundCloud is to create an account by going to the website and filling out the form needed; for those who just want to have a look at the primary features of a Podcast On SoundCloud with a free account that will suffice for now.

The easiest option being to create an account using one of your social handles such as FaceBook, Google or Apple account, taking the burden of filling in all the fields off your shoulders.

But later on, the option to upgrade to an unlimited plan will always be available if ever that need arises, especially to get around the upload time limit of 3 hours.

With a basic account, you will be limited to 3 hours of audio upload, which is generally reached withing 3 to 6 episodes, as most podcasts are running for about 30 minutes or 60 minutes per episode.

With a SoundCloud Pro Unlimited account, that sells for €8.25 per month billed yearly, you won't be limited in your podcasts uploads, and will get access to better stats about your listeners and extra features such as the ability to schedule your releases or pin tracks to the top of your profile.

However, at the beginning, all you'll need is a free account and to get started with your podcast recording and branding.

2. Get a decent microphone

After creating a SoundCloud account, the next step would be to get  a decent microphone   if you don't have one yet because this is a necessity for podcast enthusiasts. The good news is that people do not need to spend a lot of money just to be able to acquire a microphone that will be able to record good quality sound; in addition, there are microphones that are not too high maintenance, in fact there are those are USB-powered and can just be plugged into a laptop or desktop computer.

3. Get a recording and editing sound software

After creating a SoundCloud account and purchasing a microphone, the next thing to do is to decide what recording software will be used for the future podcast episodes that will be created. Of course it's a given that there really are a lot of available applications online and the best option really depends on one's preferences and needs.

But the most popular ones are Audacity voice recording free software; a lot of people might think that it is too simple to even do anything but there are still those who like it because it's straightforward and it's free. There are also other options such as Adobe Audition, and for Mac users of course there's Garage Band as an option. If someone will be interviewed on the podcast virtually, Skype is probably the best option because it has an option to record the actual call.

Audacity ® | Free, open source, cross-platform audio software
Audio recording and editing software | Adobe Audition
GarageBand for Mac - Apple
Skype | Communication tool for free calls and chat

However, my personal favorite tool to record a video podcast with a guest is the Zoom conference website that allows not only to record the whole conversion and record both the video and the audio on separate files on my computer, but also makes it very easy to organize my podcasts recordings as I can setup up calendar slots and invite my guests directly to the episode recording. After that, I edit the Zoom video recording to add an intro and an outro, and my video podcast recording is ready to be uploaded as a YouTube video and as a Podcast On SoundCloud audio and shared across my socials.

4. Include an audio jingle

Another element that makes a podcast sound professional is to pick a music that will play at the start and end of the episode, also called an audio jingle, that will be there to create your podcast's identity.

The only thing that needs to be remembered here is to make sure that the music that will be used has a license to avoid any copyright infringement issues, or like in my case to create an open source jingle from existing open source audio material with a little easy editing.

There are various websites that offer free music that can be used for certain recordings such as Free Music Archive; some people also ask permission to use the music of people who create and share their own music on SoundCloud. The next step is to record the podcast, not forgetting to play music during recording in order to include it, and upload your Podcast On SoundCloud created account.

5. Share your podcast!

Once these steps are completed, you will immediately be able to record your own podcast and share your own Podcast On SoundCloud episodes with everyone, like I did for my  International Consulting podcast   that I now host on  Anchor.fm   as it allows monetization, has no upload time limit for free hosting, and automatically shares my episodes on several other popular podcast platforms!

However, SoundCloud is one of the best option, and you can even customize your podcast homepage by adding your logo, a background image, and more - like I did for my own podcast.
