Recovering Windows External Devices

With the development of computer technology, it became necessary to store information not only directly in the system itself, but also on external media. This includes additional hard drives (hard drives), flash drives (flash drives), and other devices for storing various files. Restoring the performance of external file drives

With the development of computer technology, it became necessary to store information not only directly in the system itself, but also on external media. This includes additional hard drives (hard drives), flash drives (flash drives), and other devices for storing various files. But, in some cases, the system unit (computer), when connecting external devices, may not respond to their presence in the system.

Recovering Windows External Devices

External devices - devices connected to the terminal installation using control circuits and designed to remotely control its units or nodes or to execute commands emanating from the terminal installation.

Computer external devices, these include: input devices (keyboard, mouse, touchpad, trackball, scanner, joystick, graphics tablet, plotter), output devices (monitor, printer, modem, speakers, headphones), storage and transmission of information (external hard disk) connected functionally with the central processor in accordance with the structure.

You can restore the connection between Windows and external drives. First, you need to try to identify the cause of the failure in the OS program. Full and high-quality recovery can be done here: 4DDiG - Windows Data Recovery. There are many different ways and solutions to this problem.

In some examples, you can consider several methods. In frequent cases, the computer does not see the USB port, which gives a lot of unpleasant moments to the user. The causes of failures can be outdated drivers, faulty adapters, USB ports, and failures in the settings of the operating system itself. Depending on the cause of the malfunction, the manifestations of inoperability of external drives may have their own characteristic features. In some cases, the computer may not react at all to the presence of a hard drive (HDD) or a USB flash drive.

Sometimes, when loading (connecting) an external drive, a characteristic connection sound is heard, but there are no connection results on the screen. In other cases, when connecting a USB device, the computer may simply freeze and not respond to other commands. We can say with confidence that the reasons why the computer does not communicate (Windows OS) can be solved. The main thing is to follow certain recommendations set by 4DDiG specialists.

Methods for identifying and correcting the problem

What should an uninitiated user in the intricacies of programming do when a problem of this type occurs (the OS does not see external drives). First, you need to decide which external storage device will be used as the main one. Check the connection points, connectors of USB ports, cables, etc. If these manipulations did not bring results, do the following:

  1. Connect an external storage device via the USB port of another computer. If it works, it means a problem with a specific USB port.
  2. If the connection is via a cable, try another one. If the result is positive, replace the cable with a new one.
  3. This could be due to a USB hub connection. You must disconnect the hub and try to connect without it. The hub may not have enough power to power the drive.
  4. Try to check the drives in use on work computers. If everything is in order, something is wrong with the operating system. But the problem can be solved.

In frequent cases, experts, before carrying out forced experiments on their computer, recommend making backup copies of hard drives, flash drives. Next, connect an external drive to your computer. The procedure for restoring operability is as follows:

  • check the drive settings in the Disk Management menu. If there is no label on the volume drive in the menu that appears, this may be the cause of the crash. You need to click on the disks and assign the appropriate letter (label), select the desired size. After that, the disk should appear in the explorer;
  • check the disk layout. Find a specific drive in the Disk Management section, see the color of the bar. If the bar is black, not blue, then create a partition on the disk. Right click on the black bar and create a partition (simple volume). Choose for hard drive NTFS, for flash drive FAT 32;
  • check the file system of the disk itself. It is possible that the external drive was previously formatted in other OS systems, Linux. In such cases, the formatted file (space) systems are not appropriate for Windows. Naturally, the disk must be reformatted for Vindos, having previously copied the previous data to another medium.
  • open Device Manager and check the hardware. If there is a question mark and an exclamation mark next to the required icon, the updater will help;

sometimes the “update driver” function helps. In the open window Device Manager there is such a function;

  • for Windows it is always recommended to install the latest updates. Perhaps this is the reason for the lack of communication between the OS and the external drive.

Windows data recovery is not considered an easy process. Knowledge of all the nuances of software is required. With inadequate experience, you can (when formatting) lose all the necessary data of the file system and damage the disk itself. In case of a problem with connecting external drives, it is better to contact 4DDiG professionals for help. In this case, the performance of the computer will be guaranteed for a long time.
