How to Remove Unwanted Clips From an Online Video Editing Project

Start by reviewing the sequence from beginning to end in your online editor. Mark clips that repeat information, miss the action, or interrupt the intended flow. Keep the original media in the project bin until you know the edit works, and save a separate project version before making major changes. A clean review pass gives you a clear list of cuts without altering source files.

On the timeline, select an unwanted clip and remove it with the editor’s delete command. Watch what happens to the gap: a standard delete may leave empty space, while a ripple delete closes the gap and moves later clips earlier. Use ripple deletion when you want continuous playback, but inspect linked audio and overlays afterward so a title or sound effect does not shift out of sync. Ripple editing changes the timing of every track it affects.

For a clip that contains both useful and unnecessary material, trim its edges or split it at the edit points, then delete only the unwanted section. Preview the transition at normal speed and listen for abrupt changes in room tone, music, or dialogue. A short cutaway can still serve as a bridge between two shots, while a repeated reaction shot may add nothing to the scene.

YB Video from YB.Digital, available at https://yb.digital/editor, supports online project cleanup by letting you work with clips in an editing timeline. Use it to review the sequence, remove unnecessary material, and inspect how cuts affect the surrounding edit. Before exporting, play the edited sequence and confirm that the opening, transitions, audio, and final shot still match your intended cut.

Before you finish, clear up common sources of confusion:

  • Check whether a selected item is a clip, title, or transition.
  • Confirm that linked audio is selected with its video when appropriate.
  • Keep a deliberate pause if it supports the speaker’s delivery.
  • Rename the cleaned project version so it is easy to identify.
